Guru Ram Das Project

The Guru Ram Das Project (GRDP) is a charity dedicated to serving the community through delivering a range of holistic services to people who are in need of this type of support – whatever their faith or background.

The GRDP was created in 2003 specifically to support and build on the charitable and community based activities that were developing at the Kriya Centre in Archway, North London.  Whilst these activities have some roots in Sikh Dharma, the message is nevertheless relevant to all and can have life changing benefits.  These activities include yoga, meditation, complementary healthcare, interfaith work and education programmes and events, which can be enjoyed by everyone regardless of age or physical health.

The GRDP has a team of staff and over 100 volunteers who deliver its outreach work and coordinate community events.  The project now has a pool of teachers and practitioners who have worked intensively and successfully with a wide variety of people such as recovering addicts, the elderly, those experiencing mental health problems, victims of domestic violence and young people with severe emotional problems.
Since its conception, and through the contribution of the trustees and volunteers, the reach of the project has extended considerably.

Outreach work has included the following groups:

  • 50-80+ year old men in residential care who were previously homeless with alcoholic tendencies and with some mental health issues
  • The homeless
  • HIV/AIDS and immune deficiency sufferers
  • Young adults with behavioural health and learning difficulties
  • People recovering from drug and alcohol addiction
  • Mental health in-patients
  • Seniors and women’s groups
  • Women recovering from alcohol addiction and domestic violence
